MAS GluZilla and WoodZilla
Every kit gets a couple of these tube adhesives -Gluzilla and Woodzilla - because they are so handy, especially useful for the skiffs that utilize tab-n-lock construction. We are an MAS dealer and can ship these out as refills.
FLAG Resin by MAS
It took a while, but we finally settled on this epoxy as being the most ideal for gluing the NC Scarf joints and laminating plywood parts for our kits. FLAG is a medium-viscosity resin that does not require fillers in very tight joints , like the NC scarf, or in very flat joints like when gluing multiple layers of plywood to get a part to thickness. It can be thickened very effectively and quickly with fillers to get an epoxy putty for filleting or gluing joints with gaps present. FLAG stands for Filleting, Laminating, and Gluing.
SilverTip Epoxy (low-viscosity)
SilverTip Epoxy is a low viscosity, liquid epoxy resin system that has been optimized for coating plywood and wetting out fiberglass in kit boat building. It has a long open time allowing for recoating, up to 72 hours, without sanding, a boon for home builders.
Gel-Magic by System Three
GelMagic is a toughened, non-sagging, two component, structural epoxy adhesive designed for superior bonding to wood. Measuring is easily accomplished by either volume or weight. GelMagic requires no additional modification with fillers and can be applied to vertical and overhead surfaces without running, eliminating the mess and waste associated with other epoxies. It is the primary epoxy used in gluing structural kit components together, such as planking, framing, tanktops and spars.
Quik-Fair Putty
QuikFair is a lightweight, microballoon-filled, fast-curing two-part epoxy fairing putty with excellent moisture resistance. The two color-coded parts have a non-sagging, butter-like consistency and are easily mixed to form a third color.
QuickFair is great for fairing the edges of fiberglass tape, filling imperfections, covering over screws, smoothing fillets and even filling fiberglass weave and wood grain for a smooth finish. We always seal over bare QuickFair with a couple coats of SilverTip Epoxy before priming and painting.
EZ-Fillet Putty
EZ-Fillet is a wood flour-filled two-part putty specifically designed for stitch-and-glue wooden boat construction. The resin (part A) is brick red in color while the hardener (part B) is a deep, dark green. A rich red-brown wood tone results when the two parts are combined indicating complete mixing. The putty thickens after mixing to form an easy to spread thixotropic compound which will not run or sag. EZ-Fillet has been designed for superior strength and workability and can be used by itself to create smooth cosmetic fillets or as a structural fillet when combined with fiberglass cloth.
West System Reusable Mixing Sticks
Reusable Mixing Sticks are practical for epoxy mixing, application, filleting and as a cleaning tool. The squared, beveled end reaches mixing pot corners for thorough mixing and blending in fillers, and for cleaning up excess epoxy. Use the rounded end to shape 3/8″ radius fillets. Cured epoxy pops off easily, so they can be reused many times. ¾”-wide x 5½”.
Squeegee
Included in kits requiring fiberglassing and very handy for spreading SilverTip epoxy onto surfaces when precoating wood. Easily cut into smaller sizes and shapeable to make custom putty sticks, such as for fillets.
Syringes
Reusable 807 Syringes can be loaded with your epoxy mixture for injecting into tight spots. Ideal for hardware bonding and small repairs. Holds 12 cc (about 0.4 fl oz).
Mixing sticks
These are just right for metering out the prethickened epoxy products and mixing. They double as fillet sticks ,slightly smaller than the black fillet sticks.
Fiberglass tape and cloth
6- to 10-oz fiberglass cloth comes in 2-3” tapes and prepackaged quantities by the yard. You will get just the right type and amount of fiberglass for your kit.
Roller Covers
800 Roller Covers are thin polyurethane foam covers and are the only roller covers recommended for applying epoxy. The thin foam allows you to control epoxy film thickness, avoid drips and runs, and get a smoother epoxy coating overall. The 7″ covers can be cut for smaller jobs, narrow strips and tight areas. By cutting these into segments you can make to make an ideal tipping brush.
Graphite Powder
423 Graphite Powder is a fine black powder that can be mixed with epoxy to produce a low-friction exterior coating with increased scuff resistance and durability. Epoxy/graphite is commonly used as a low-load, low-speed bearing surface, as a coating on rudders and centerboards, or on the bottoms of all craft that are dry sailed. It does not provide antifouling qualities. The epoxy/graphite mixture cures to a dark gray color and makes a very nice bottom for the boats.
Chip brushes
These disposable 1” wide brushes are shipped by the dozen and used for applying epoxy. For best results, trim at least 1/3-rd the length of the brushes away with sharp scissors for easier application. We ship “extra thick” brushes for larger fiberglass and coating jobs when we want a brush with a little more durability, but still are single use.
Graduated Paper Cups
The majority of customer problems stem from incorrect measuring and/or poor mixing of our products. We offer the following tools to help you make your project a success.
Save yourself a headache and keep plenty of mixing & measuring cups around. Have the right size cup for the batch you are making. We've had people try to make a 1.5-ounce batch in a 12-ounce cup. They may have gotten it right the first time, but you cannot be accurate guessing the measurements between the graduations.
Cups provide an inexpensive means of mixing and measuring small batches of epoxy. Order in bulk to save.
Plunger Pumps
Pumps that dispense material from our quart, half-gallon, and gallon containers. For dispensing purposes only, not recommended for measuring. Will not work with adhesive products (Gel-magic, etc.)
