I wanted to draw a little boat that was not expensive and easy for someone to get to and from the water perhaps with the ability use as a tender. But it had to be a boat that I could use to teach all the skills and methods of boatbuilding. This is not an easy task.
But it turned out, to be a quick design to come up with. Everything came together: I had an audience (my Boatbuilding 101 class), a basis of comparison (the Wee Lassie double paddle canoe was one) and the lines were easy to draw (I ate my Wheaties that morning).
The Menomonee Canoe was designed to be fun and to teach. It is the model of choice for a 3-1/2 day boatbuilding class we affectionally call Boatbuilding 101.

While small there is a lot of capacity for an adult but where this canoe really shines is getting kids on the water. We hope to see big kids and little kids exploring protect waters of all sorts. Even better will be if they built this boat themselves.
The kit ships by FedEx or USPS ground in a cardboard box. Over a few weekends, people can have one built. Even the paddle is something we supply in the kit!

The Menomonee canoe kit is composed of a couple sheets of 6mm Okoume for the hull the structural parts such as frames. The timber kit uses select Spruce for gunwales and hardwood for a few trims.
