In this 3-day class, students learn the basics of how to build your own boat starting with a kit. We build a 9-foot canoe and run through all the skills from reading plans, to mixing epoxy, to hand tool use, and through the steps and skills of building a small boat.

April 18-20th, 2024 ~ Chase Small Craft ~ Saco, ME

Get your boat ready to sail in 2024!

In this class, we will build a spar or two for one of your projects and learn a bit about spar theory. Between everyone, there will be solid and hollow spars, yard and boom, and at least one Birdsmouth mast being made. So you will get the whole range of spar making techniques available and leave with one spar built for your boat and maybe some others started! Join us!

Make your own oars for your boat! Class is only $375

Come for this 2-1/2-day class and make a set of oars from our trademark Maine Oar Making Kit, made from native Spruce and ultra-light blades. Learn to use the hand tools, customize your oars, oil, leather and bring them home to use on your own boat.

June 16-22, 2024 ~ WoodenBoat School ~ Brooklin, Maine

Finishing and fitting out the NEW Calendar Islands 20 built last summer

In this week we will be workshopping to the max on getting the new boat finished for the School - your help will go towards getting this new design in the water and a part of the WoodenBoat fleet to be used classes in 2025. We will finish interior construction, fitting out and rigging. We’ll have the opportunity to finish the spars and install centerboard and rudder. It promises to be one of the most exciting, hands-on and busiest classes at the School in 2024!

August 26-30 ~ WoodenBoat School ~ Brooklin, Maine

This new course will take you through the basic of designing a simple boat of your choosing using sketching, traditional hand drafting techniques with splines and ships curves, and basic calculations to refine the design into a well performing boat. We will draw, build scale physical models, andyou will see how a computer model can be made at the end of the class.

July 22-26th, 2024 ~ WoodenBoat School, Brooklin, Maine

Build your own Echo Bay Dory Skiff in one week with Clint Chase and the expert help of Jodi Carpenter. We start with a gorgeous kit for the rowing version of the boat and you leave with a skiff ready to prepare for painting and your first row. The Echo can be converted to sail with further work at home or you can schedule an add on class with us.

TBD ~ Chase Small Craft, Saco, ME

In this 3-day class, Clint Chase will lead you through the myriad of details to finishing and fitting out a small boat. With a Pram leftover from our 101 class, we'll start working at 8:30am in the morning finishing at 5 daily. One lucky student can go home with the boat, which will be done on a lottery basis if more than one student is interested. We do offer class extensions for boat finishing and rigging if a student wishes to continue on with us to finish the boat.

February 9-11th, 2024 ~ Rocking the Boat in the Bronx, NYC

During this three-day session at Rocking the Boat in the South Bronx, noted designer, boatbuilder and kit-boat entrepreneur Clint Chase will lead participants in the assembly of a pair of 14-foot-long Caravelle Skiffs. In addition to gaining experience with contemporary plywood-epoxy building techniques, participants will have the satisfaction of helping to assemble a fleet of versatile lightweight rowing craft for use in free community boating programs in New York City.

September 15-21st, 2024 ~ Northwest Maritime Center, Port Townsend, WA

Build the perfect little skiff for motor, sail and row!

Clint is excited to be heading out to Port Townsend, Washington in 2024 to teach this new build-your-own class with the Calico Skiff. This small boat is one that Clint is excited to offer for folks who want to build a boat but need something versatile, stable, and safe for adults and kids in any waters. Each individual or team will build and take home your own boat at the incredible Maritime Center in PT.

It’s Santa’s workshop in Saco where we build beautiful scale models of the Echo Bay Dory Skiff - whether for gifts or your own pleasure, this weekend class is a joy. The class fee includes the model kit and the supplies you need to build it in the two days. Take t home for paint and varnish.
