In this class we will start with a complete kit for the versatile and beautiful Calico Skiff, a sail, row, and motor skiff for everyone. With the wood, screws, and glue on hand, we'll start building right away Sunday. We build the boat from precut parts over the course of the week: parts making, hull building, making the gunwales, installing seats and finishing with instruction on how to prep and paint your boat, or how to get it ready to sail if you wish to make a sailing version.
For the Calico, we can prepare a sailing package for you in advance and, if there is time, get started on the sailing components during class. At the very least, we'll have a daggerboard trunk installed by the end of the week. If you do want to build the trunk into the boat, please be prepared to put in a little extra effort during the class.
This is a great class for people who want to build their first boat in an exciting, educational setting and with the guidance of the designer-builder. You will be ready to go home loaded with great memories and a boat ready to sand and paint. Don't worry, we will send you home with everything you need to paint and fit out your skiff.
Work begins Sunday and ends Saturday. We'll start at 8:30 am daily and try to end by 5pm each day. For those building a sailing version, we can discuss getting in a little extra time on your boat but plan on doing a class extension if you want a sailing version. We will have long days but we’ll get a lot done and you will leave tired but happy!
If you want to bring a partner, we encourage it.
Please contact Clint to discuss options or visit the Calico Skiff page to learn more about the boat.
